An incomplete cast copper-alloy arrowhead of Bronze Age date. It is missing its tip, at least half of the socket and the edges of the blades due to old breaks. The arrowhead has a circular socket that extends to form a prominent central mid rib that is lozenge-shaped in section. This has a central circular perforation that is visible both at the socket end and the incomplete tip of the arrowhead. To each side of the object are flat, semi-circular blades that are missing their outer edges due to old breaks. At the socket there is probably the remains of a circular peg hole visible to o…

A flint barbed and tanged arrowhead dating form the early Bronze Age (2150 - 1500 BC). The arrowhead is broadly triangular in plan with a rounded end and lentoid in cross secion. The arrowhead has been formed from a single flake which has been shaped with invasive retouch around the edges of both faces. The retouch covers more of one side than the other perhaps suggesting this is an unfinished example. The tang is rounded and it is not clear how much more work there would need to be done to create barbs. It is possible that the arrow head could be classed as a non-fancy Sutton type…

Cast copper alloy projectile, possibly a socketed arrowhead dating from the later Bronze Age that is c. 1300-800BC. The arrowhead is nearly complete with only the tip and half of the socket missing. The socket was thinly hollow-cast, but the head is solid with a square or diamond-shaped cross-section. It is heavily patinated and corroded in patches. The artefact may date from a later period, but most of the comparable examples on this database were dated to the Bronze Age, so this entry will follow. However, the writer is not currently aware of any excavated examples or examples from …

Chert barbed-and-tanged arrowhead with short barbs and a squared-off tang. The left and right margins of both faces have been retouched to the point of the arrowhead, as are the margins around the barbs and tang at the opposite end. The right margin of the dorsal face has been worked to the medial ridge, but all other retouch is only about 2 mm in from the edge. The orange-red colour of the chert suggest that this is not locally made and does not look like Greensand chert from Devon either so it may have been brought into the county more recently as it was not found in the archaeologi…

The arrowhead is 3.11g, 30.10mm in length, 21.2mm wide and 6.6mm max thick, 2.8mm thick at the projection and 2.4mm thick at the tip. Small tanged and barbed arrowhead, that has been 'improved' in more modern times. The antiquarian collector, Mr Evett, gave cash for flint tools, and it seems that some may have tried to fabricate or improve prehistoric-looking tools in order to earn a few pence.

A copper alloy Bronze Age arrowhead which is flat and barbed and tanged. One barb is missing and the edges are damaged. It has a rib along the centre on both faces, giving it a slightly lozenge shaped section. The end of the barb is rounded, as is the end of the surviving tang, though it is not clear if it is complete. The barb is half as long as the tang. The notch between the barb and tang has straight sides and a rounded end, but overall is fairly square and narrow (3.67mm wide at the widest point). The surface has a smooth golden brown patina which is well developed. There is some…

An incomplete Late Neolithic to Early Bronze Age barbed-and-tanged arrowhead, probably dating to c. 2500-1500 BC. The arrowhead is triangular in plan with both barbs surviving at its base, although the tang is incomplete. One barb has an oblique base, angled in towards the tang, whilst the other barb is more rounded and appears to have a small area of cortex on the outside edge. Dimensions: length: 20mm; width 28mm; thickness 2.5mm; weight 1.1g The small size and proportions of the arrowhead would suggest that it is of the Sutton type, as illustrated by Butler (2005: 163).
