Object type: LITHIC IMPLEMENT
Broad period: BRONZE AGE
County: Somerset
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
An incomplete perforated pebble hammer or mace head. A small sub-rectangular shaped and polished stone tool with an approximately central straight sided circular perforation. There is some damage to one face of the implement. The stone is an igneous doloritic greenstone of medium grain (Pers comm. Roger Taylor, Geologist at the Royal Albert Memorial Museum, Exeter). The nature of the perforation indicates it was drilled using a hollow drill. This is quite small for this type of tool, and its function is not certain.
Date: Bronze Age (Pers. comm. Steve Minnitt, Somerset County Museum)
