Grey flint knife, as kindly identified by the finder. A thick oval flake with broad flakes struck from its dorsal side and a bulbar ventral surface. Short abrupt retouch follows a curving edge; a chip was probably damage incurred in antiquity as orange staining from contact with gravels passes over the broken surface. Suggested date: Early Bronze Age, 2350-1600 BC Length: 42.5mm, Width: 38.4mm, Thickness: 14.4mm, Weight: 18.06gms

Flint knife on a secondary flake. This flake one arrise on the dorsal and a large bulb of percussion bulb on the ventral. The is short, low angled, direct retouch on the left side. The right side and top edge have suffered extensive frost damage. Grey flint with a creamy speckled patina forming the areas of frost damage has removed the patina exposing the flint.

Rough, inverse, low-angled, scaled retouch running down both sides. the flint is covered in a creamy patina, but the retouch in the left side has removed this surface exposing a light brown flint.

Early - Middle Bronze Age flint plano-convex knife dating to the period c. 2350 - 1500 BC. Hard hammer struck tertiary flake. It exhibits four narrow negative flake scars on the dorsal face. The ventral surface is missing the bulb of percussion and exhibits a series of closely spaced conchoidal ripple marks. The distal end has been retouched on both the dorsal and ventral face, with three flakes removed from each face. One mesal edge exhibits pressure flaked semi-invasive, scaled semi-abrupt retouch. The flint is a mottled dark grey. See: Clarke, T.G.D, 1932, "The Date of the Plano…

Early-Bronze Age flint knife. There is a large bulb of percussion on the ventral side with large ripples covering the rest of the surface. The dorsal side has two ridges that converge near the tip. On the left side are direct, short, semi-abrupt retouch. There is a patina forming on the flint but this has been removed where retouched and exposing light brown flint underneth.

Prehistoric flint edge retouched knife, probably of early Bronze age date. Formed on a roughly elliptical secondary flake of dark grey flint which has a domed cross-section. It has invasive retouch to all edges on the dorsal face, and white cortex is still present over the c.30% that is not retouched. The ventral face has a shallow bulb of percussion and ripple marks. It measures 39.2mm long by 20.8mm wide by 7.4mm wide, and weighs 7.2g.

Made on an opaque light caramel brown chert that has turned mostly a chalky white through patination. Dorsal side invasively retouched. Ventral face also received some attention.

A small sub-rectangular flint knife with borer of probable Late Bronze Age to Early Iron Age date, c.1000-0 BC. Description: The knife is formed of a sub-rectangular secondary flint flake, which has been worked mainly on the right hand side of the ventral face. The distinct conchoidal ripple marks on both sides and the large bulb of percussion on the lower ventral face, suggests that the flint has been hard hammered. The retouch is formed of short, scaled, semi-abrupt retouch along the right hand edge of the ventral face. On the lower end of the blade is a possible borer. The flin…

A possible flint waste flake reutilised as a serrate implement or denticulate of uncertain age, possibly Late Bronze Age to Iron Age in date? Description: The flake is a tertiary flake and ovoid in plan. It has had long thin removals on the ventral face. Along the left edge of the ventral face are a number of irregular short scaled abrupt to semi-abrupt removals. It is uncertain how intentioanl these removals are however. At the bottom right corner edge of the ventral side is some short scaled abrupt retouch. The entire flint is mottled beige and white with some iron stiaining and …

A broad and possibly once oval shaped flake knife, 51.1mm in length, made from grey flint, with intrusive retouch along both long sides of the dorsal surface to create two cutting edges. There is extensive damage and loss to the distal end which has removed large portions of both edges as well as the original tip of the tool. Areas of the damaged part demonstrate more abrupt retouch suggesting a process of repair and re-use after breakage. The knife was found near 15 flakes of debitage including one core trimming flake. Neolithic to early Bronze Age.

Grey flint with cortex, possibly collected from the East Coast, probable knife. Thick flake with two broad flakes removed from its ventral side by hard hammer strike. A period sufficient for the struck surfaces to acquire a yellowish iron-stained cast ensued. This light discolouration was removed along one long edge by short abrupt retouch executed from the ventral aspect. The Early Bronze Age could accommodate both primary and secondary episodes. Other damage appears adventitious and recent. Suggested date: Early Bronze Age, 2350-1600 BC. Length: 77mm, Width: 38.7mm, Thickness: 15…

Probably a palaeolithic flint tool reused in the later prehistoric period, possibly as a knife or other cutting tool. The tool is of a dark brown/black flint, rolled and with significant areas of iron staining. At more recent removal scars the flint can be seen to be mottled with cloudy white areas and rare white inclusions. The tool is D-shaped in plan, and with a truncated pointed oval cross section, with the dorsal face being more pronouncedly curved than the ventral. The initial working of the tool is bifacial, with covering, sub-parallel semi-abrupt retouch on the dorsal fac…

~~Early-Bronze Age flint Plano- convex knife. Traces of a bulb of percussion are visible on the ventral side, however, the main portion of the bulb has been removed by a single flake that has a negative Bulb of percussion. The dorsal side has a single ridge that runs down the centre this has flanked by direct, covering, scaled flaking scars that range from low angled at the proximal end to semi-abrupt at the distal end. This is a light brown flint with creamy/grey speckles.

An incomplete knapped flint fragment originating from a plano-convex knife of Early Bronze Age date, c. 2500-1500 BC. It is now preserved in fairly fresh condition with an even white and blue patina covering most of its surfaces, though the inner material (visible at its truncated end) seems to have been a dark blue colour originally. The fragment is sub-triangular in form (probably the form of the original knife itself) and plano-convex in section. Its ventral face is plain, though its dorsal surface (specifically the right dorsal edge) demonstrates directly applied invasive pressure…

Grey-buff flint knife. Oval flake with broad parallel flakes struck from its [probably] dorsal side, and with angled covering scalar retouch across its [probably] ventral surface. Short abrupt retouch executed from the dorsal aspect follows one side of a rounded end. Patches of misty patina on struck surfaces suggest the object was exposed to a calcareous environment for a relatively short period after its deposition. Suggested date: Early Bronze Age, 2350-1600 BC. Length: 49.5mm, Width: 28.7mm, Thickness: 8.3mm, Weight: 11.78gms

Dark grey flint with cortex knife. Thick flake with broad flat flakes struck from its dorsal side and with an uneven ventral surface. Short abrupt retouch executed from the dorsal aspect follows one straight edge. The relict cortex probably facilitated the exertion of pressure on the cutting edge. Misty patina suggests a period of exposure to a calcareous environment after deposition. Suggested date: Early Bronze Age, 2350-1600 BC. Length: 45.5mm, Width: 29.8mm, Thickness: 14.5mm, Weight: 15.76gms

Grey flint knife. Flake with broad flakes struck from its dorsal side by multi-directional hard hammer working, and with a hinged fracture marking its separation from the core. Further broad parallel flakes were then removed from the ventral surface. Short scalar retouch executed from the dorsal aspect follows a curved edge to form a cutting edge. The smooth hinged fracture may have facilitated the exertion of pressure when using the knife. It is possible a more symmetrical lunate form is disrupted by the loss of part of the cutting edge. Suggested date: Early Bronze Age, 2350-1600 BC
