An incomplete flint barbed and tanged arrowhead of Bronze Age date, c.1500-1100 BC. The arrowhead is triangular in plan with two notches in the base between the central tang and a barb to either side. One of these barbs is broken. The arrowhead is formed from a tertiary flake of translucent mid-brown flint which is bifacially worked with covering, scaled, low angled removals on all surfaces. Measurements: Length, 34mm; Width, 22mm; Weight, 3g

A complete probable flint borer, awl or scraper of probable late Neolithic to (early?) Bronze Age date (c. 3300 BC - 1000BC). It is also  It is a unifacially worked tertiary flake with no cortex remaining. There is evidence of short, scaled, semi-abrupt retouch along the dorsal margins together with invasive, stepped, semi-abrupt retouch moving toward the centre of the dorsal surface. There is also a distinct flake scar with visible ripple scars towards the proximal end of the dorsal surface. This creates a recess in the surface of the implement that could possibly have been…

A thumbnail scraper of probable late Neolithic to Beaker Period/Middle Bronze Age date, (c. 2500 BC - 1000 BC). The scraper is sub-oval in plan and bi-convex with a D-shaped cross section. There is evidence of abrupt retouch around approximately two thirds of the circumference where no cortex remains. There is a patch of cortex remaining on the convex face, making this a secondary flake. There are clear conchoidal ripple marks on the flat face together with evidence of some small-scale flake removal. The scraper is a light pinkish brown in colour, with the fl…

A borer of probable Neolithic to Bronze Age date (c. 2800 BC - 801 BC). The object is sub-triangular in plan and is bi-convex with a broadly D-shaped cross-section. It has one flat and one convex face. The flat face features clear conchoidal ripple marks while the convex face is largely covered by cortex, making it a secondary flake. It appears that the proximal end of the dorsal face has been retouched on both margins to form a projecting point, creating a clear chisel-like edge with evidence of flake removal leading away from the working point. The borer is a sl…

Incomplete flint barbed and tanged arrowhead dating from the Beaker period (c.2500-1500 BC). The arrowhead is triangular in plan: 27 mm in length, 23.5 mm in width at the base, 4 mm thick and weighs 2.4 g. The pointed tip is missing. Both faces have been thinned by the removal of many small, shallow, invasive pressure-flakes. Two notches have been formed by pressure flaking at the base of the triangle, to form the tang and two barbs, and the two notches carefully shaped by further pressure flaking. The two barbs have obliquely shaped ends and the tang is square, placing the arrowhead …

A flint end scraper, sub-oval in plan, plano-convex in profile and lenticular in section. Part of the striking platform remains at the proximal end with a pronounced bulb of percussion on the ventral face. The dorsal face bears the scar of removal of an earlier, large flake and two smaller longitudinal flakes. The ventral face is slightly concave. Two small flakes have been removed at the distal end of the dorsal face, followed by the removal of seven or eight much smaller pressure flakes to form the scraper edge, which has been blunted by subsequent use. The flint is light grey in co…

A large bulb of percussion is visible at the proximal end of the ventral face, together with a small bulbar scar. Conchoidal ripples are faintly visible towards the distal end of the ventral face. A flint notched and serrated flake, sub-oval in plan, plano-convex in profile and in section. Made on a secondary flake with a layer of cortex remaining on about half of the dorsal face. The point of percussion is visible at the proximal end but impurities in the flint have resulted in a lack of a bulb of percussion although the conchoidal ripples are clearly visible across the ventral face. The dorsal face bears the scar of the removal of at least one earlier flake. Several small flakes have been removed at the proximal end of the dorsal face, resulting in a notched edge with a short…

A flint hollow scraper, trapezoidal in plan, triangular in profile and in section. Made on a secondary flake with a large layer of cortex remaining at the distal end of the dorsal face. Any evidence of a bulb of percussion has been lost by the removal of two shallow flakes from the ventral face, left of the point of percussion, which is still visible within a very small patch of cortex at the proximal end. A third shallow flake has been removed from the ventral face close to the right margin. The cortex at the proximal end of the dorsal face has been removed by the removal of at least…

A flint horned scraper, sub-rectangular in plan, an elongated rectangle in profile and plano-convex in section. A primary flake, with a pronounced bulb of percussion visible on the ventral face at the proximal end, adjacent to the point of percussion. The proximal end of the flake is damaged at its margin with the dorsal face. At the distal end a steep, wide flake has been removed from the dorsal face, resulting in a concave edge which has then been retouched along this margin of the dorsal face to be used as a scraping tool. A crude flint end scraper, sub-oval in plan, plano-convex in profile and triangular in section. Made on a primary flake with a layer of cortex remaining on the whole of the dorsal surface. A small bulb of percussion is visible at the proximal end of the ventral face, adjacent to a clear point of percussion. There is a sharp change of angle on the ventral face about 12 mm from the point of percussion, representing the intersection between the face of the flake and the remnant of an earlier flake removal. A chopping tool, probably also used as a scraper, oval in plan, triangular in profile and semi-circular in section. Made on a primary flake, struck from a flint nodule, which has then been extensively and bi-facially re-worked although a large patch of cortex remains on the dorsal face. The distal margin of the steeply domed dorsal face has been sharpened by the removal of lateral flakes through about two thirds of the circumference of the tool. At the proximal end a single large flake, together with several smaller ones, have been removed at the margin of the dorsal face to enable th…
