An incomplete, copper alloy (bronze) spearhead of Middle Bronze Age date (1550-1250 BC). The object is made up of two fragments, but has a leaf-shaped blade in plan. Fragment 1. This fragment is triangular in plan, as a lozenge shaped cross section (particularly the central rib) and consists of the tip of the blade of the spearhead. The break at the bottom is uneven, with a lozenge shaped projection on one side. Whilst the majority of the surface has a brown patina, the break and some patches over the surface of the object has a lighter green patina. Dimensions. Length: 50.…

A copper alloy (bronze) palstave of Middle Bronze Age date, probably of the Acton Park II/Taunton metalwork style (c. 1400-1250 BC). The cutting edge has a crescentic form with the tips recurving back onto the expanding form of the blade, though one side is more pronounced than the other. The maximum heights of the flanges on both sides are taller than the stop ridge height, with the flanges forming a leaf-shaped pattern when viewed from above. The septum is U-shaped and is largely flat, though it tapers towards the butt. There is a casting pit on one side against the stop ridge. …

A fragment of a copper alloy (bronze) socketed axehead of middle to late Bronze Age date (c. 1300-800 BC). The fragment comprises the blade, above which is a worn and abraded break that reveals a shallow portion of the socket. The fragment is sub-trapezoidal in plan and has a triangular cross section. The blade is an asymmetrical crescent, which is possibly due to wear and abrasion. The angle of the right-hand side of the blade is steeper than that of the left-hand side. The broken edge of the axe runs at an angle inwards from the bottom before rising towards the top end of …

An incomplete, copper alloy (bronze) spearhead, likely from the Middle Bronze Age (1450-1150 BC). There is a central rib running along the blade with a high profile and a lozenge shaped cross section that tapers towards the tip of the spear, which would mean that the fragment is likely from a Middle Bronze Age looped and socketed spearhead, similar to HESH-8E7894. The original blade would likely have been leaf-shaped. The blade has lost some of its cutting edge due to abrasion in the soil, and parts of the blade have been chipped off, most notably a triangular sect…

An incomplete, copper alloy (bronze) socketed axehead of Middle Bronze Age to early Iron Age date (c. 1300-800 BC). The object only survives as the blade edge and part of the body of a socketed axehead that is sub-trapezoidal in plan and sub-triangular in side-section. The blade edge is curved but very worn, and the surviving section of the body has uneven breaks, with more of the right-hand side of the body surviving than the left-hand side. A fragment of a copper alloy object, probably part of an axehead of Bronze Age date (c. 2500-800 BC). The fragment is likely of the blade end of the axehead with a transverse break across the body. The surviving section of the blade is crescent shaped and the object is triangular in profile, narrowing evenly from 4.89mm thick at the break to 0.96mm thick just before the edge of the blade. The cross section is more akin to a pointed oval. The object has a light green patina. Due to very little of the axe surviving, it is difficult to accurately identify the type of Bronz…

The palstave has triangular flanges that taper towards the straight butt. The stop ridges are slightly crescentic and are lower than the flanges. Beneath the stop ridges, there are what appear to be shield-shaped depressions on both faces. The blade flares from the stop ridge and ends in a curved, flared and asymmetrical cutting edge, likely asymmetrical due to damage. There are traces of casting ridges along both sides of the object. There is a central rib running down the blade with a high profile and a trapezoidal/lozenge shaped cross section that tapers towards the tip of the spear, which would suggest that the fragment was from a spearhead and not an arrowhead. The blade was likely leaf shaped, though the very tip of the spear and much of the main body is now missing. This section was likely from near the top of the spearhead. An insufficient portion of the spear remains to prove diagnostic, therefore…
