An incomplete cast copper-alloy spherical animal bell (crotal) of Post-medieval date (AD 1500-1650). It is missing one half of its lower hemisphere.
The bell comprises two hemispherical domes with a raised circumferential join. The upper hemisphere has two circular sound holes (c.5.3mm diameter) with a cast integral rectangular loop projecting from the top between them. The upper edges of this loop are bevelled while the hole is rectangular (c.7.2mm by 6.8mm). The lower hemisphere has a long, wide sound slit with circular holes at the ends. An incomplete copper alloy Roman brooch of Langton Down type dating to the late Iron Age or early Roman period, c. 25-60 AD. Missing most of the arms and spring, pin, much of the bow, the foot and catchplate. The bow has a lenticular cross section and meets the hinge in a semi-circular sectioned head. The arms are cylindrical but incomplete and retain a fragment of a copper alloy spring. No decoration is evident.
