No details are clear due to corrosion and abrasion. The reverse is flat and undecorated. The surface has traces of a dark green patina, but is has red copper corrosion. An incomplete copper alloy strap mounted suspension plate from a post Medieval sword belt fitting. The plate has waisted trefoil terminals, drilled for attachment, which expand into the middle before  constricting into a central lozengiform section which is also drilled for attachment. The front surface has deeply moulded foliate decoration and traces of rusted iron rivets remain at the attachment holes. From the lower side of the plate project three round suspension lugs, which retain hooked suspension attachments, only one of which is complete. Circa 16th century.

Its frame is sub-rectangular with rounded corners, and is bowed (curved) towards its front by intentional design. At the point where the pin spindle would have been fitted to the frame, there are three moulded ridges flanked by two recesses. A post medieval cast copper alloy continental bi-faced coin weight of 3g (46.2 gn) for a half ryal, dated to AD 1580. The weight is sub-rectangular and features a ship with rose on the hull and a letter R left of the mast (for Rose noble or Ryal). The reverse has the upright hand of Antwerp with a numbers each side indicating the date, 8 and 0. Possibly by by Hans Foncq of Antwerp.

Description:  A complete Medieval to Post Medieval gilt silver hat badge (dress hook) dating to circa AD 1500-1550. It consists of a discoidal plate with recessed panel and separately made soldered S-shape hook projecting from the reverse. The S-shaped hook tapers into a point and is now flattened.
