A lead object bearing a design seen on late Iron Age North Eastern staters. The object is circular, dished, and bears the obverse and reverse motifs found on late Iron Age staters. These motifs are rather clumsily done, however. The obverse (convex side) depicts a wreath formed of ten diagonal lines, five on each side. Next to this are two pellets, aligned parallel to the wreath. Adjacent to the wreath and pellets is a moulded line, and possibly two smaller pellets to the side. The reverse (concave side) depicts an abstract horse running to the left. Above the horse is a ring of six p…

A contemporary copy of an Early Uninscribed gold Stater of late Iron Age date. No exact parallel could be found for this coin. The reverse design suggests that it is an amalgam of elements copied from genuine Staters of southern England, in particular the 'L' to 'QC' types (see R. Hobbs; 1996; pp. 60-73). The coin has a copper-alloy core and a gilt surface. The flan is oval in plan and plano-convex. It measures 18.5mm in diameter, 1.7mm thick and weighs 2.89g.
