A group of four struck flint flakes, undatable Prehistoric in date (from the Palaeolithic to the Bronze Age, c.500,000 BC to 800 BC), although the patination suggests a date later than the Palaeolithic.

A complete roll of sheet lead alloy, of uncertain date and function (AD 43 to AD 1800).
The artefact consists of a rectangular strip of lead sheet, tightly rolled up into a cylinder.
It measures 17.81 mm in length, 11.56 mm wide and 10.64 mm thick. It weighs 13.0 g.
The roll of lead is a light to mid grey colour, with an even surface patina.
The Romans did have curse tablets which consisted of writing a curse on a small piece of lead sheet and then rolling it up before offering it to the gods, many have been found in the spring at Bath. As stray finds, out of context (and stil…

Lead possible spindle whorl. Cast plano-convex whorl with central moulded and slightly tapered aperture of diameter 12.4mm, surrounded by a prominent ridge probably created at the time of casting. The plano-convex form agrees with Walton Rogers' Form A1, possibly derived from that of cattle femur head whorls, while the large aperture would indicate date later than the Middle Saxon period. The extent of patination, which is patchy and modest on the curved surface and absent from the flat surface, must introduce significant doubt as to dating of this object, unless recent disturbance fr…

Lead possible weight. Oval plate cut from cast sheet of thickness 1.7mm, with a possibly drilled off-centre aperture of diameter 3.5mm. Patinated overall. The finder suggests an identification as a weight, but the mass of this object does not correlate with units or sub-units of any particular historical period. It might have served as a fishing line weight, a necklace spacer, or for some other unknown purpose. Suggested date: Unknown, 43-1800.
Length: 15.6mm, Width: 14.2mm, Thickness: 1.7mm, Weight:2.63gms.

A complete cast copper alloy, probable awl, of unknown dating, but probably Roman to Post Medieval (AD 43 to AD 1800).
Both ends of the awl are complete, and taper to a sharp point. One half of the artefact is conical in shape, whereas the other half is square sectioned. The square sectioned end exhibits a 90 degree bend. The square sectioned end forms the tang and would have been for insertion into a wooden handle.
It measures 52.27 mm in length, 6.16 mm wide and 11.33 mm thick. It weighs 6.4 g,
The awl is a mid brown to mid green colour, with an uneven surface patina. Abrasion…

Lead weight, as kindly identified by the finder. Cast conical weight with a central aperture of tapering diameter between 2 and 3mm, widest at the indented base. Patinated overall. The conical form and aperture are features of objects identified as Viking Age weights or playing pieces. The mass is close to that of the Viking ore or ora of circa 24gms. It may also relate to that Scandinavian system for measuring bullion based on a module of 4.07gms, on which scale this object would represent six units. However, David Haldenby kindly notes that the Viking Age weights he has recorded lac…

Lead spindle whorl. Cast biconvex whorl with central moulded aperture of diameter 10.5mm, and with a flat rim circa 4mm wide where the two convex halves meet. Patinated overall. Though the identification is probably safe, dating remains uncertain. The characteristics of the whorl could admit dating between the Anglo-Scandinavian period and the Post-Medieval period, most likely at one or the other end of that span. At either period it would have served for plying cord rather than spinning a yarn. Suggested date: Unknown, 850-1600.
Diameter: 31.2mm, Thickness: 11.7mm, Weight: 58.98gms.

Copper alloy possible vessel fragment. Flat leaf-shaped fragment of cast sheet which has been hammered on one surface while held against another flat surface. This has produced a rippled effect on the beaten surface. It is possible that one curving and smooth edge is the original margin of a rounded plate, suggesting a possible diameter of circa 130mm, but the other edges are ragged fracture surfaces. Suggested date: Unknown, Roman to Post-Medieval, 43-1800.

Object type: DISC
Broad period: UNKNOWN
County: Cambridgeshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A lead-alloy or (white stone) disc of uncertain date or function. The disc is flat and sub-circular with a maximum diameter of 21.39mm and thickness of 3.51mm. It weighs 7.40g. A sub-triangular perforation is present set 2.30mm in from the edge of the disc. The perforation measures 4.01mm from the apex of the triangle to the centre of the base. No obvious decoration is present on either side of the disc.
The presence of the perforation suggests that this disc might have been used as a pendant although it could also have had a different function and been nailed to something thro…

A complete cast copper alloy ring of uncertain date, probably Iron Age to post-medieval. The ring is circular in both plan and cross section and is slightly narrowed to one side. The object is undecorated.
Copper alloy rings of similar sizes and shapes are generally thought to function as part of a harness or sword belt. Unless they come from an archaeological context however it is not possible to securely date such objects.
The metal has a mid blackish-green patina and is worn. The ring is 17.7mm in diameter, 3.9mm thick and weighs 2.9g.

The weight is undecorated with a slightly concave base.
The metal is a light brownish-white colour and is worn. The weight is 39.1mm tall, 19.2mm in diameter and weighs 67g.
