A fragment of late Middle to early Late Bronze Age end winged axehead with side loop dating c. 1150-800 cal BC. Only the central section survives with an incomplete side loop and wings. The butt end terminates in worn break with an 'H' shaped cross section; the tips of the flanges turning inwards at 90 degrees to create wings forming a proto-socket each side of the septum. An incomplete late Bronze Age copper-alloy end-winged axe. Sub-rectangular in plan with butt, side loop folded wings and crescentic cutting edge. The butt end and most of the wings are missing. The damaged butt end is 25.34mm wide and 20.14mm thick. Casting seams are faintly visible along the centre of each side. The small surviving sections of the wings suggest that both are C-shaped in cross-section with their ends turned inwards. Fragment of late Middle to Early late Bronze Age winged axehead with side loop. Only the central section survives with a loop on the underside of the flanged body and old brittle fractures at either end where the butt end and majority of the remarkably thin axe blade have broken away. The wings are long with the ends turning sharply inwards towards each other to secure the original haft. No stop ridges. Dark brown water patina with casting seams largely removed. BURNHAM HOARD 2010 T509: item 9.M Winged Axehead Incomplete cast copper alloy winged axe, the blade end is missing. The butt end has a wide 'H' shaped cross section, which becomes more rectangular towards the broken edge. There are two wings on the upper and lower surfaces which curve towards eachother, but the ends do not touch. There is a side loop which is filled with corrosion products. Length: 69.27mm. The loop is 23.06mm long, 6.41mm thick. 32.70mm wide, 38.03mm thick at central point. 12.54mm thick tapering to 6.19mm on the body. wings are 5.15mm thick. Weight: 222g

Late Bronze Age bronze end-winged axe, belonging to the Carp's Tongue complex of Ewart Park metalworking, corresponding to Needham's (1996) Period 7 and dated to c. 950-750BC. The winged axe is incomplete, missing both wings on the unlooped side (the axe has an overall length of 1360.9mm and a weight of 282.8g). The butt protrudes beyond the return of the wings (by 14mm) and expands to the end (with a width of 22.4mm and a thickness of 6.1mm).
