Iron spoon auger. Wrought Iron tool comprising a U-shaped blade of length 48mm, a short shank of indeterminate section and length c.17mm, and a tang of elongated rhomboid form and rectangular section, length c.35mm. The tang would be inserted into a handle when the tool was used, and its expansion is probably intended to prevent it twisting as rotary force was applied. This is one of several tools reported together from the same location. Wrought Iron tool comprising a narrow blade of concavo-convex section, length c.50mm, at the end of a shank of indeterminate section, length c.55mm, expanding at the other end as a wedge-ended tang. The tang would be inserted into a handle when the tool was used. This is one of several tools reported together from the same location. All of which appear to have served for woodworking, probably carpentry or wheelwright's work rather than house building to judge from the modest blade sizes represented. Suggested date: Medieval, 1200-1500.
