Copper alloy and iron possible scissors fragment. A small leaf-shaped iron blade fragment [tip lost] with a backing of thin copper alloy which appears to extend from the broken stub of a handle with an angled outer end and a low rib on one side; the loss of a counterpart is presumed. This might be from a pair of embroidery scissors, as most sets of shears for heavy duty tasks were made entirely of iron and are larger. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1700-1800
Length: 36.4mm, Width: 10mm, Thickness (handle): 3mm, Weight: 3.48gms

A Post Medieval-Modern copper alloy probable scissor handle, c.AD 1800-1900.
This is probably one of the handle loops for a pair of small scissors. It is heavily worn and corroded, which obscures any decoration that it may have had.

Part of one abraded arm of a pair of post-medieval copper alloy scissors broken at both ends, across a finger-loop and a rust-stained obliquely recessed hinge. Between loop and hinge the cross-section is alternately square and octagonal, with moulded decoration on the three square-sectioned lengths too worn to be interpreted. Broadly comparable examples have been ascribed a wide variety of dates (see NMS-1FDB62). Extant length 44mm. Mid 16th - 17th century.

It is in the form of an openwork design, rectangular in cross-section. The design consists of part of a large, oval loop with part of a smaller, circular loop C shaped scroll extending from one end. Beyond the circular perforation is a short, blunt extension. All the breaks are rounded, suggesting that they occurred in antiquity. There are no markings and the few remaining…
