A complete Medieval to Post Medieval copper-alloy ring dating to the period circa AD 1200-1800. It is comprised of a circular loop. The frame is broadly rectangular sectioned with a bevelled edge on both faces of the frame. Ring such as these are common founds and difficult to date without secure archaeological contexts. They may have been part of horse-harness, or used for suspension of vessels, or as curtain-rings, and so on. The hoop has slightly faceted sides and the interior hoop is flat creating a sub-oval hexagonal cross section.The surface has dark green patina and is covered in filing marks. Dimensions: Diameter 27mm; thickness 4.2mm; weight 6.06g These were often cast in rows and it is notable by a distinctive flattened point which can be found on this particular object.
