A corroded iron tool, perhaps a pickaxe of probably Post Medieval to Modern date. The object is rectangular in section and is a curved tapering spike. It is broken at the wider end where it also splits with a slot in the centre. This may be the start of a socket. The tool is corroded and rusty but in otherwise good condition.
It was found on Towton Battlefield, so has been recorded in case it is a Medieval weapon from the battle of 1461, but this seems unlikely having compared it to examples of staff weapons in "Weapons" by the Royal Armouries (2006). It is not similar to the hal…
