Lead paperweight. Cast weight in the form of a swan afloat. An oval base supports the naturalistically modelled figurine of a swan with folded wings and arched neck, the latter now bent against the body complete with head, eyes and bill. Moulded detail on one side includes the depiction of quills towards the tips of the folded wings. The casting is solid, which would be somewhat uneconomical for a commercially made piece. Flat oval lead object with the letters MM moulded in relief on one face. Length 37mm. Width 23mm. Thickness 7.7mm. The weight (49.46g / 763.2 grains) does not correlate to any system. Perhaps a personalised or bespoke paper weight. Post-medieval, 17th - 19th century.
