An incomplete copper-alloy lock plate of Medieval date. The surviving piece consists of a sub-rectangular plate. One of the vertical sides is jagged and the lock plate would certainly have originally been longer; one of the horizontal sides is also slightly concave and this is also possibly the result of damage. A short distance in from the intact vertical side, aligned parallel to it, is a straight-sided aperture which converges slightly at one end. This hole would have held the projecting hasp on the associated hinged fitting. The upper surface of the plate bears patterns…
