A complete silver looped fitting or gem surround of probable late Post Medieval dating (AD 1722 onwards). The looped fitting has a D shaped cross section, probably originally oval in shape but now bent out of shape. At the top of the fitting is a circular attachment, one on each end, secured together with a silver rivet. No inscription on either the interior or exterior. It measures 16.2 mm in length, 8.1 mm wide and 2.9 mm thick. It weighs 0.6 g. The fitting is a dark grey colour, with an even surface patina. There are three lines of applied filigree running along the decorated face. The two outer lines are twisted giving a rope effect, and the inner line comprises a chain. A square fragment of silt gilt sheet with four side panels and bevelled corners, hollow and open at the rear and measuring 9.9mm by 8.9mm by 3.7mm. The front is engraved with a monogram reading IHC in gothic letters on a simple cross-hatched background within a linear border. The reverse is hollow and undecorated with no fittings. One side panel of the object (to the right of the front) has been damaged; there is no evidence of fittings or attachments to the side panels.

The object is two machine pressed rectangular plates soldered to a central rectangular block which is probably solid. Roman copper alloy hooked fitting, probably from a necklace, dating to the period c. AD 43 - 409. A rectangular, square-sectioned body with a polygonal lug with a circular perforation projecting from one end and a hook projecting from the opposite end. The hook tapers in thickness along its length, terminating in a pyramidal knob. Johns (1996, 94) discusses several gold necklace chains from the Thetford hoard which exhibit similar hooks. Similar examples in gold (KENT-0B2382) and silver (DOR-DB47E8) have been recorded on the PAS database.
