An incomplete probably Post-Medieval cast copper-alloy harness fitting, heavy duty hook. Probably dating to c.1500-1800. Openwork oval plate body surmounted by a trefoil terminal in the form of a fleur-de-lis. At the base is an extended arm that is slightly curved appearing as to form a hook, but terminates in an old break. Two rivet fixing holes on the central vertical axis. The surface displays a green patina. Length 55.5mm, width 31mm, thickness 2.3mm, weight 14.5g. No similar examples found.

A complete Medieval copper-alloy probable harness hook dating to circa AD 1150-1450. The object is heraldic, consisting of a flat, shield shaped head bearing the design of three chevrons inlaid with red enamel on one face and a cross fleuretty inlaid with red enamel on the other. From here it flares and thickens into a pyramidal collar with flat base. Traces of gilding survive on the collar. Medieval gilt copper alloy harness hook with a single integral round-sectioned rivet on the reverse. There are two engraved grooves on the spade-like end of the hook. Most examples were furnished with a pair of rivets, cf. Read 2008, nos. 807-8. Various identifications are given to similar objects on this database, see note on NMS-9B5737. One from London was published as a strap-end (Egan and Pritchard 1991 no. 728). Weight 4.70g. Length 34.9mm. Width 8.1mm. Mid 12th - 13th century.

A incomplete cast copper-alloy heraldic harness hook of medieval date (c.AD 1200-1400) Description:  The object remains as the shield-shaped plate, flat in cross section. The bottom corner broken away from the rest of the hook and has bent upwards. The front and back surfaces bear a heraldic device of three up-turned crescents with an unidentified image within the horns on a field of red enamel. Traces of gilding remain on the crescents.  Measurements: length; 28.21mm,  width: 24.29mm,  thickness: 3.3mm, weight: 9.89g.

A copper alloy harness hook of Medieval date, about AD 1200 - 1400. It has a shield shaped terminal at one end, a bulbous collar in the centre and then a tapering shaft of circular section. The shaft curves around so that the end of the shaft meets the vertical part, creating a loop in the same plane as the shield shaped terminal. The terminal is recessed for enamel, all of which is missing. AT its base is a panel with a single collar above and below, containing a single pierced hole with a diameter of approxmatly 2.5mm. Beyond this the hook terminates in a rounded worn and possibly broken off edge. The underside of the panel is concave. It has a brown and green mottled patina. A corroded but complete medieval cast copper alloy harness hook dating to the 13th century. The top of the object comprises a conical stop tapering to a zoomorphic terminal, which has a prominent snout and open jaws. From the wide base of this section protrudes a long and narrow round-sectioned shaft terminating in an integrally cast hook, which curves forward in the same orientation as the beast head terminal. Complete cast copper alloy robust harness hook of later medieval or post medieval date. The artefact is well cast and for heavy duty use being robust. It comprises a rectangular shaped loop from which which descends a tapering rectangular D sectioned bar whose terminal is cast to form a bulbous hook. It terminates in a rounded edge.
