An Early Bronze Age halberd. Comprising the blade and four intact, in-situ rivets. The butt of the hafting plate is arched and bilobed with a slight notch, possibly from a missing fifth rivet. The cutting edges are slightly splayed from the hafting plate creating a small shoulder on each edge. The four rivets are arranged in two on each side in a diagonal line. The rivets are all domed at either end with thick shank between. They vary a little in length and diameter (see below). The blade tapers to a broad, tongue-shaped, rounded tip. On both faces there is a broad, low midrib with a…

Lead alloy miniature halberd, 21mm high and 23mm wide. It is quite decorative and may have been a childs toy? The shaft appears to be complete and is made up of two circular knops the lower of which has a pointed end. The head is fixed into a square section and is flared, it has curvilinear forms engraved into its surface.

This is a symmetrical slender halberd blade of cast copper or bronze. Down the centre of the blade is a straight midrib. This is wide and angular in cross-section, at the top end tapering with a straight line into the haft-plate. The blade edges have been entirely removed, thus also removing any traces of bevelling originally along the edge. Whilst much of this damage is due to erosion of fragile edges, it is possible that some edges were notched through use wear or mutilation prior to burial. The erosion seems particularly deep and severe, with concave eroded depressions side by side…

This weapon consists of an axe-head (a large flat piece of iron), which is balanced by a 'pick' (a smaller flat piece of iron). This weapon would have been hafted onto a shaft and the spike would have made the shaft even longer. This weapon is likely to be post - 14th Century in date, as they were not introduced into France or England until that time. The blade of the axe-head is square (rather than crescent) suggesting an even later date of c. 15th Century. As drawn, the axe-head is on the left, the pick is on the right and the spike extends between the two. The socket (where this wea…
