A complete flint flaked and polished axe of probable late Neolithic date (c.3300 - 2200 BC) The axe is an elongated flame-shape, sub-oval in cross-section and bifacially worked. There is invasive, scaled, low angle retouch on both faces with limited polishing visible in places at the cutting edge on the wider end. Two areas of the original cortex are present on one face: near the smaller 'haft' end, and another section adjacent to a long lateral natural step or groove close to one edge. The presence of the latter cortex, and seemingly un-retouched natural s…

An incomplete and unpolished Neolithic, (c.4000-2400BC) flint axehead, having bifacially convex sides one more pronounced than the other. Its cutting edges are sharp and undamaged. On the surface of one side, there are three small cavity's measuring 5.1 mm x 2.3 mm, 2.3 mm x 2.0 mm and 1.9 mm x 1.8 mm, probably caused by fossil inclusions. Probably Neolithic, it measures 83.2 mm in length, is 57.6 mm wide, has a thickness of 29.2 mm, and weighs 152.3 gm.

This implement is now sub-square in plan and is pointed-oval ('lenticular') in cross-section. In plan, the sides flare slightly from the break to the curved cutting edge. The arrises are not very sharp. The axehead is mottled grey and pale orange with iron staining. The break is old. Length: 65.0mm; width: 51.5mm; thickness: 26.8mm. Weight: 106.22g. A flaked flint axehead. The flint is mottled mid grey and grey brown with a low-gloss patina. A small area of off-white nodule cortex remains on one face. There is some iron staining along the flake ridges. Sub-trapezoidal in shape with a rounded, tapered but and a shallow convex cutting edge. It has been crudely bifacially flaked, producing an asymmetrical cutting edge. One face is more crudely worked than the other, with a large, irregular hinge fracture and several flake removal scars from the side edges.. The other face has numerous, smaller flake removal scars from all directions…

A small flaked axehead. The axe is cordate in shape, oval in cross section and is bifacially worked. Both faces show invasive covering flaking with some flakes terminating in hinge fractures indicating probable use of a hard hammer. The flint is opaque and with a light beige, chalky patina, with multiple areas of less siliceous honey-coloured flint. Areas of ferrous staining are visible mainly on the flake ridges. A remnant of a the striking platform is evident at one end and it is possible the axe was made on a large, naturally fractured piece. Date: Neolithic - c. 4000 - 2350 BC D…

A Neolithic (4000 - 2,100 BC) flint flaked axehead with possible (old) damage to the butt end. The axehead has an elliptical cross-section, being rather flatter on one face than the other. This face has transverse flake removals behind the cutting edge for c.one third of the length of the axehead. The cutting edge (41.7mm wide) is convex in shape and slightly lop-sided. Otherwise flake removals, to both faces, are from the centre towards the edge. The more convex face has a central ridge of coretex, tapering off to one edge just before the butt-end (21.2x19.3mm). At this point, the b…

Flaked flint axehead, bifacially worked to produce an asymmetric sub-lozenge shaped cross-section. Significant amounts of recortication has occurred on this secondary peiece of flint, cortex remaining over the majority of the butt end. The presence of one small cavity is visible on the surface. This oval cavity measures 3.2mm x 2.4mm. Some battering on edges and on cutting edge. While this object could be a 'preform' which was intended to be polished the less perscriptive term 'Flaked Axe' is prefered. Probably Neolithic. Weight 191.44g, Length 106.6mm, Width 51.8mm, Thickness 29.6mm.

Most of the surface retains off-white, chalky cortex, with only the cutting edge and two areas on one face showing exposed flint. There is some unifacial flaking on both margins, one side had a deep hinge fracture and abrupt to semi invasive bifacial flaking of the wider end to form the irregular sub-curvilinear cutting edge. Flint flaked axehead. Thick oval flake with covering scalar hard hammer retouch, which has produced an unpolished adze of broad oval section. The long parallel edges are both heavily ground or battered. A dense creamy patina suggests the object has endured prolonged exposure to a calcareous environment after its deposition, and it is additionally stained orange by percolated iron.
