A copper-alloy medieval Sterling bust jetton type issued under Edward I dating to the period AD 1293 - 1296. Long cross with expanded ends, star or crescent in each angle. Mint of London. Class 7.
The basic design of the jetton is based on the sterling pennies introduced by Edward I in 1279 though bear decorative borders rather than the legends typically seen on coins of the period.

Similar jettons are illustrated in Mitchiner (1988) p.160ff which states that such jettons were issued under Charles IV in AD 1326 and continued in similar form until the currency reforms of Charles VI.

An incomplete copper alloy sterling bust jetton of Edward I to the early reign of Edward III, c. AD 1280-1345. Mernick Series 2d.4 - Kings head obverse with coinage punches. The obverse shows a facing bust within border of strokes and rosettes. Reverse is a long cross patonce, in each angle a rosette within a crescent (Mernick Reverse 2d.18).
