Purple Welsh Slate Slate fragment with bevelled edge. One side bears scored parallel lines circa 13mm apart and the other side bears a series of 12mm squares. This is a schoolroom slate, with the lined side for practicing handwriting, and the squared size for arithmetic. This object was reported along with a slate pencil. Suggested date: Modern, 1860-1920. Length: 65mm, Width: 43mm, Thickness: 3.2mm, Weight: 21.47gms.

A medieval writing lead. The lead shaft is round in section and tapers to a point. It is bent at a right angle in the middle. At the top of the lead shaft is a circular knob, which has a diameter of 11.28mm. The length of the writing lead is 71.79mm, the thickness of the shaft is 67.26mm and the weight is 36.60g.

Copper alloy Probable tool fitting. Cast ring with cross-hatched surface, probably to afford grip. Distorted, probably by intense heat. The surface finish recalls that of bicycle valves and adjustable tools, whereby manual adjustment is facilitated by a textured surface. Suggested date: Modern, 1850-1950.
