Silver coin. A medieval or post-medieval hammered coin, with faint indications of an inner circle on one side, and of a discrete rim on the other. Robustly cleaned and possibly flattened, whether recently or in antiquity is uncertain. The mass might suggest this to have been a worn medieval penny or a post-medieval halfgroat. Suggested date: Unknown, 1279-1649. Diameter: 19mm, Weight: 1.04gms

Copper alloy possible coin. A small thick round flan retaining no discernible detail on either side. If indeed a Roman coin, this would presumably be a radiate or nummus indeterminate, later Roman issue of 260-410. It might alternatively be a small weight or even a very distressed medieval or post-medieval coin weight. Suggested date:Unknown, 260-1700 Diameter: 14.5mm, Thickness: 2.8mm, Weight: 1.84gms

Copper alloy coin. Possibly an as of an indeterminate early Roman ruler, possibly issue of 43-117. The thin flan is bent in a wavy pattern, and is now in two pieces having broken along a probably ancient crack. This pattern of damage is unusual for a Roman coin, so a later - post-medieval, and possibly irregular or private - issue might equally be considered. Suggested date: Unknown, Roman to Post-Medieval, 43-1812 Obverse description: Large head right. Reverse description: Figure possibly seated right with legs apart; alternatively Britannia seated right. Diameter: 25mm, Wei…

White metal, possibly lead alloy or silver, possible coin. Oval flan with no discernible design on either side, though both surfaces have a pelleted appearance overall. Possibilities may range from a copy radiate or nummus of Roman date, through to a modern forgery of an Anglo-Saxon or Celtic coin. Suggested date: Unknown, 260-2000. Cliff Reeves kindly examined this coin, opining it is unlikely to be Roman. One edge is chipped, revealing grey metal. Probably heavily cleaned. Diameter: 11.7mm, Weight: 0.90gms.

White metal possible coin. A flat flan bearing faint trace of a bust right, otherwise featureless. Possibly clipped with the removal of legends; edges appear neatly cut. The overall impression is that this may not actually be a coin. It is possible this object may relate to a rash of forgeries reported from various sites detected by this club over the years, though those forgeries are usually of different style and construction, and are thought to come from a 'mint' in the Grimsby area. Obverse description: possibly bust right. All other detail lost. Suggested date: Unknown, Roman …

Lead alloy possible coin forgery. A flat pellet of solidified and inflexible lead melt, flat on one side but with a concave oval impression suggesting a grid-like pattern; patinated. This might be a fragment of debris from the casting of lead which has come into contact with textile while still fluid, which could only be dated to between the Roman and Post-Medieval periods. However, the northern part of Lincolnshire has also seen the frequent discovery of modern lead alloy forgeries intended to resemble Iron Age and Early Medieval coins. These have been produced in various ways,…

Copper alloy and silver possible coin, as kindly suggested by the finder. Possibly a base metal core retaining traces of a thick silver jacket, both components either melted or probably distorted by intense heat. This might suggest either a later Iron Age coin or a later Roman plated issue; the thickness of the object might hint at the former. Suggested date: Unknown, Late Iron Age to Later Roman, 50BC - AD296 Diameter: 18.6mm, Thickness: 1.8mm, Weight: 2.64gms
