Cast circular flat plate with a broad central ring and dot of diameter 10.4mm surrounded by indistinct concentric grooves and ribs with an outer textured border; comparable though not identical to NLM-ACDBC8. Paired lugs for a pin [lost] and an opposed stub from a catch plate appear on the back which is otherwise plain. Copper alloy and iron mount. Cast copper alloy plate with concentric moulded decoration, of thickness 1.8mm at its outer edge. The decoration comprises, described from the centre outwards: a plain flat central boss, a gutter separating the boss from a thin and possibly cabled strand and continuing beyond it; a thicker cabled band in a gutter with a further narrow strand beyond it; and finally a plain flat border. Copper alloy buckle. A massy cast D-shaped buckle with an expanded and thickened textured outer edge with a broad grooved collar towards either end and a narrowed strap bar whose ends are grasped by biting beast heads; the centre of the strap bar is notched to receive a pin [lost]. This is a somewhat massier version of a buckle form usually ascribed to the 11th century. A wider date range is offered with deference to its atypical features. A small cast rotary key for a casket, more finely cast and finished than is usual for the type, with a long rhomboid open bow separated by a collar from a round section stem which is expanded slightly where the stub of a rectangular bit with a cleft in its front edge remains; there is a constricted point at the end of the stem beyond the bit. Copper alloy disc brooch. Cast circular flat plate with an off-centre large ring and dot of diameter 1.8mm with a border of fifteen smaller [diameter 2.5mm] ring and dot at its outer edge. The triangular stub of either a catch plate or pin seat appears on the back. This sort of brooch is infrequently reported in our area, though a Roman version was recently reported from Low Burnham in the Isle of Axholme. A massy cast oval or vesica-shaped loop with a thickened lug in its keeled front above and below the circular central aperture and with a grooved or stepped front; a round-section shank springing from the back of the upper part of the loop is turned through a right angle with a circular loop at its end. Abraded. The form does not appear in Wild’s type series though he ascribes massy casting of his Type 1 to an essentially Iron Age origin, pre-dating most others. This is a notably heavy example. Copper alloy girdle hanger. Cast E-shaped plate with slightly concave outer edges and a longer central stalk, broken at its upper end. A series of semi-circular stamps, each arc enclosing a dot and so resembling halved ring-and-dot, passes along the outer borders of the central stalk, follows the edges of the troughs on either side, and ascends the inner side of the outer elements. A comma shaped casting tapered to either end with two rows of triangular enamel-filled cells of a dull red and a [now] pale green tint, alternating tints being accompanied by alternating orientation of the triangles. Suggested date: Early Roman, 100-150 – which is based as much on the assumption of a 2nd-century date for polychrome enamel as on the detail of decoration, which is not precisely paralleled by Mackreth (2011).
