Ceramic doll fragment. The head and shoulders of a small child naturalistically moulded at a scale of c.1:10, probably as a solid 'china' head for a doll otherwise made of fabric: a 'rag doll'. A mould line passes over the crown of the head and a hollow extends into it from below. The head was either left bald to represent an infant or, more likely, bore separately modelled hair. Head and neck would probably have protruded from clothing padded to represent the body.
