Most of the main body including the mouth piece are missing.
The surviving part is tubular and circular in cross-section and has a circumferential collar. Between the body and terminal there is a similar but smaller collar. The terminal has been damaged and possibly burnt. It may have been pierced to form a suspension loop prior to being damaged. There is no indication of a maker's mark.
This whistle is in poor condition and is grey with buff corrosion deposits. The bre…

A large lead or tin alloy object, now rather corroded, which appears to function as a whistle. The object can be described as bottle-shaped with a cylindrical neck and a short rounded body, though with a pointed base. the neck terminates in a conical cap at the apex of which is a hole now infilled with iron. There is an integral looped projection at the base of the neck and this is angled slightly downwards. Within the loop is held diagonally a narrow tube which is made from another type of metal. The open end of this tube sits just above the clasping loop and there is a D-shaped (?so…

A complete, cast probable lead/tin alloy (possibly pewter or tombac) whistle dating from the Post Medieval to early Modern period. The whistle consists of a pipe, circular in section, with a 'D' shaped performation mid way along the length. At the sound hole, half of the inner pipe is blocked to create the 'whistle' sound. The pipe leads to a hollow, broadly 'D' shaped sound box. A circular raised collar surrounds the pipe where it meets the sound box. A raised rib runs circumferentially around the sound box, with the hemisphere below it being rounded and that above more flattened. A …

Silver whistle, incomplete. A piece of sheet silver has been rolled and soldered along the edges to create a cylinder that tapers slightly and is broken at both ends. There are two collars with three ridges, one at either end of the body. In the centre, soldered onto the body between the two collars, is a silver wire suspension loop and that secures a free-running wire loop. In addition to this, independent from the body, is a silver wire loop soldered at each end to make a loop, with an S-shaped silver wire attached through it.

This is now open but would have been blocked by a stopper of some sort. Decoration around the mouthpiece consists of a band of fine tendril ornament. This is separated from a field of fine pellets by a low rib. The pellets extend to the distal edge of the sound hole. A casting seam extends the full length along both sides. Length 26mm. Mouthpiece 9.5 x 6mm externally. Other end 4.5 x 4mm. Perhaps 17th - 18th century.
