Reference: Dumbarton Oaks Vol. IV, pt 1, pp. 440-1, nos. 2.1-2.17; Vol Iv, pt 2, pl XXVI, 2.4, 2.6 & 2.11 The patina of coin suggests that this find is not an ancient loss.

A worn and corroded base silver (billon) or copper-alloy coin, probably and a late 11th to early 13th-century Byzantine trachy, possibly of Emperor Theodore Komnenos Doukas (1225-30) or Manuel Komnenos Doukas (1230-37) struck at the mints at Thessalonike (Greece).
