An incomplete silver venetian soldino of Doge Nicolo Tron Dating to the period AD 1471-1473 The Venetian soldino circulated unofficially as halfpennies in England during the early 15th and 16th centuries due to a lack of small change in circulation at the time, they were nicknamed galleyhalpens or galley halfpence after the galley-men who imported them, the merchants on the venetian galley fleet who came to England each summer. The two main influxes of soldini first under Doge Michele Steno (1400-1413) second under Doge Loredan (1501-1521)
