A complete Roman copper alloy trumpet brooch, dated to the 1st to 2nd centuries. Brooch has a simple trumpet-shaped head with no wings. The bow curves deeply outwards and has a decorative collar at its middle. The collar consists of five prominent horizontal ridges moulded in relief. The foot has three similar ridges in relief and ends in a small terminal knop. The catchplate is complete and the pin is present. The brooch has a green patina over its surface.

A medieval copper alloy annular brooch with four turret shaped settings empty for probably glass 'gems'. On opposing sides of the frame are two small rectangular plates riveted on with pronounced, central knops. These are decorated with two rows of a punched design. The pin is missing but there is a hole through the frame where it was looped. Margeson [Norwich Households, p16] dates broches of this type to around 1275 to 1400.

Cast copper alloy Roman plate brooch. The brooch is lonzengiform with four sub-circular cupped lugs, one projecting from each corner. In the centre of the lozenge is a raised circular boss surmounted with a shallow cupped bowl - smaller than the ones forming the lugs. The shallow cup in each lug and the one in the central roundel are all stained with orange corrosive product; it is likley that they contained enamel. Fragment of a cast copper-alloy Colchester derivative Roman brooch. All that remains is the triangular catchplate and a short length of the bow. The bow has a central groove running lengthways and at the foot of the brooch are two incised grooves running side-to-side. There is a pronounced lip along the section where the bow and catchplate meet. The catchplate has a semi-circular groove for holding the pin. This item can be dated from the first to second century AD.

Roman copper alloy T-shaped brooch with serrated edges, Hull's type 144 with the Polden Hill side lugs, complete except for the missing enamel decoration. It also appears to have an additional forward-facing hook of a different (poorer) copper alloy to both the brooch and the chord and spring. The lower bow and foot are bent to one side. A Roman copper alloy zoomorphic brooch in the form of a hen or cockerel (late 2nd century AD). The head and body project from a flat base that conceals the pin and catchplate. There is a break across the neck and the head is now missing. The body is hollow and the wings are decorated with semi-circular cells then a curve of triangular cells. The cells are infilled with red, yellow and blue enamel. It has twin lugs and the pin that hinges is complete. A Roman copper alloy trumpet brooch with head loop. The loop at the back of the head which would have been used to secure the pin is now missing. The bow has a D-shaped section and has a double 'V' on the head. There is moulded beading on the apex of the bow consisting of three transverse lines. There is no other decoration on the bow. Similar brooches are shown in Hattatt; A Visual Catalogue of Ancient Brooches (2007) p328; that are dated from the 1st to 2nd centuries AD. An incomplete Roman copper alloy Colchester derivative Polden Hill brooch (flat wing ends type, Western Group). The wings of the spring cover survive as do the coils of the spring and the now bent pin. There are five coils to either side of the pin but the spring axis has detached from one of the pierced end-covers of the spring housing. Likewise the external chord which passes through a pierced lug that projects forward from the centre axis of the brooch has become detached from the spring. The intaglio itself is possibly carnelian or glass, it is too degraded to identify definitively, but it could possibly be a bust. Incomplete copper alloy Roman trumpet brooch, 2nd century AD. The brooch consists of the lower bow, the foot, broken catchplate and the two lateral lines at the top of the lower bow which would have been part of the central bow button. There is a ridge running down the lower bow but apart from the two lateral lines on the button there is no other decoration. Roman cast copper-alloy brooch fragment. T-shaped bow brooch with, now broken, head stud loop. Only the cross-bar and a fragment of the bow survive. The, now lost, pin was originally hinged and the remains of this hinge can be seen on the reverse. An angular ridge & groove design can be seen on the bow with traces of surface gilding still remaining. Brooches of this type are typically date from the 1st to 2nd centuries (c.43-200 AD.).

Cast copper-alloy Roman brooch fragment. Head of brooch and small length of bow only remain with the remanant of a hinged pin still in place on the reverse. The brooch is of typical T-shaped design and is possibly of Langton Down type with a design of linear grooves running down the length of the bow with traces of silvering still evident. This brooch is provisionally dated to the 1st to 2nd centuries AD (Early Roman: c.43-200 AD).

A Roman copper alloy Colchester brooch head fragment. The initial part of the bow and both wings of the spring cover remain intact. Only one half ( 8 turns) of the bilateral spring survives, together with the remnant of the internal chord which is broken just after it passes through the perforated lug on the head of the brooch. The bow fragment where it rises from the head is decorated with a raised central longitudinal flute which is flanked by two lesser flutes to either side. Circa 43-100 AD. Dimensions: weight 11.73g
