A replica of Cnut of Northumbria (c. 900 - 905). This coin was found in an area of known Viking Age re-enactments and was examined by the FLO and Dr John Naylor, and was found to be a modern reproduction on the following grounds,
Although the coin has inscriptions and obverse/reverse designs which are faithful to the originals, there are problems when you examine the coin closely:
the combination of obverse (EC-1ii) and reverse (CR-G) type seen on this coin isn't seen in the Cuerdale hoard (which is a large sample)
the letter forms are quite scruffy…

Record ID: CORN-11257D
Object type: SEAL MATRIX
Broad period: MEDIEVAL
County: Cornwall
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A small seal matrix, of probable Medieval dating (1200-1400 AD), featuring decoration of two semi circles, separated at their straight edges by three horizontal dots. It is possible that the slightly larger semi-circle was intended to represent a simplified form of an animal; perhaps a bear or boar. While it is in an overall good state of preservation, the loop appears brittle.
From the handle flowing down into the seal matrix itself, the shape changes slightly. Nearer the handle it is more hexagonal, but upon reaching the seal matrix itself, it rounds out into a circular shape.

Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
An intact copper-alloy Roman teret ring, of probable Roman dating (43 - 100 AD). It has a dark grey-green patina (90%), with patches of red-brown (10%), which is probable iron staining.
On one side of the circular rein fitting, there is a relatively thick, sub-cylindrical protrusion, which likely functioned as the attachment between the horse's harness, and the teret ring. It has no discernible decoration, except four raised lines, running horizontally down its two longest edges and meeting at the the ring. On the opposite side of the ring from this 'attachment', there is …

A cast copper alloy decorative strap mount or fitting with a square plate, 19.4mm wide. The mount is decorated with raised cells of retained metal, with four small square cells around a central circular cell, all holding a red enamel inlay. The surface of the mount around these cells is gilded. The edge of the plate has a narrow recessed lip which appears to be beaded. The reverse is flat and undecorated with stumps of two integrally cast attachment prongs on the outer edges of the plate, which may represent rivets or (given the positioning) part of an attachment loop.
