An incomplete cast copper-alloy object, possibly a very small buckle frame of uncertain date. It is missing one side due to old breaks and has very worn surfaces. The object is cylindrical in form, curving around at either end where it terminates in very worn old breaks. If this is indeed a buckle each of the ends would have joined a now missing bar that would have given the object an oval shaped frame. It measures 8.69mm in length, 4.65mm in width, 1.66mm in diameter and 0.12g in weight.

A bent and corroded part of a cast copper-alloy sheet plate from a buckle of uncertain date. The object is sub-trapezoidal in shape. It tapers gradually from a width of 10.8mm at the attachment end to 7.0mm towards the terminal, beyond which the sides curve to a (now abraded) rounded terminal. At the opposite end there is an off-centre tab; the tab on the other side has been lost. This is a pair of rivet holes at the frame end with a third hole central at the terminal. The object has corroded to an orange-brown colour, with large patches of light-green and off-white corrosion produc…

An incomplete cast copper-alloy object, probably a buckle or brooch. Date Unknown. The frame was probably circular or sub-circular in plan when complete. At one end of the frame there is an incomplete extension, circular in cross-section, which may be part of a constriction for a pin or a bar. At the opposite end of the frame there is an old break. On the outer face of the frame there is an integral circular feature with a bifid projection. This may represent a stylised bird's head. At the front the circular feature is concave and has a small central circular depression. Between thi…

A sheet copper-alloy buckle plate of Roman or later date. It is formed from a single rectangular sheet folded in half to form an upper and lower plate of equal size, the lower plate slightly shorter in length. At the frame end the plate is cylindrical in form to accomodate the now missing buckle frame and at the open end there are two circular rivet holes, one of which contains a copper-alloy rivet with globular head. There are no traces of decoration and the object has a mid green patina. It measures 21.59mm in width, 14.76mm in length, 3.33mm in thickness at frame end, and weighs 2.…

Copper alloy buckle of uncertain date, possibly Roman or Early Medieval
The buckle is fragmentary and is represented by the outside edge only (with a surviving length of 14.4mm, a surviving width of 28.5mm and a weight of 5.5g). The buckle fragment is of sub-circular section, which gradually thickens from both ends to the centre (with a minimum diameter of 2.6mm and a maximum diameter of 6.9mm). There is a notch to accommodate the pin on one side. The surface has a dark brown patina and elsewhere is grey to pale green.
Although fragmentary, the buckle form does not appear to be ty…

A bent copper-alloy buckle plate, dating from the Medieval or post-Medieval periods.
The plate is rectangular in plan and has two projecting tabs at the frame end, which would originally have extended into the now-missing back plate. The upper surface of the plate bears an incised shield, aligned longitudinally, its point at the non-frame end. The shield has two outer borders and is emblazoned with a single incised saltire. The two corners at the non-frame end are both pierced with a single rivet hole. In addition, there is a 'V-shaped' nick which splays outwards from the point of t…
