An incomplete, very worn Roman copper-alloy contemporary copy of an As of Claudius (AD 41-54) dating to the period AD 41-54 (Reece Period 2). Very worn reverse, impossible to identify, but there is a feint trace of a standing figure, possibly Minerva advancing right. Mint of Rome.
Contemporary copies of this issue appear frequently in Britain (see G, Boon, Counterfeit Coins in Roman Britain, plate IV, cf. nos. 49-54).

This example is a contemporary copy of those minted at the Lyon II, à la Petite Tête.

The coin is preserved in poor condition, though all the essential identifying details remain. The prototype for this piece can be seen in RIC vol. I, no. 100.
