Robertson 2000, 238 no. 985: ""A farmer seeking lost sheep picked up what appeared to him an old button, which upon examination proved to be a penny of the Roman Empire. Upon making further search, a large number of such pieces were picked up, some bearing traces of inscriptions but many so corroded as to present no trace of any impression. The writer went to the spot and having turned up the sod with a spade found a coin nearly as large as an English penny piece. Robertson 2000, 254 no. 1069: ""A hoard of Roman coins, contained in an earthenware vessel, was discovered about 1902 by Mr. William Owen and Mr. John Hughes while digging for gravel (shale) for the parapets of local roads on the rock, a few score yards to the S. of the ruins of Llys Euryn, which are ΒΌ m. S.S.E. a quarter of a mile south-south-east of the parish church. Owen's pick went into the vessel which was in a small hole about a foot deep made in the shale rock. Copper alloy nummus of Maximinus Daia, AD 310-313 (Reece Period 15). Reverse: GENIO POP ROM. Mint of Trier. RIC VI, p. 226, no. 845a. It is a very irregular almost 'teardrop' shaped with at least one very straight edge, possibly indicating it was cut from a strip. The coin is very well preserved, evenly worn, but with all details still clearly visible and very limited patches of green corrosion.
