Penhallurick 2009, 269: "The museum on St Mary's has three sestertii found in a midden layer on the southern shoreline of Tean in 1956. Accompanying pottery indicated an occupation from the first to the fourth centuries and included sherds of samian ware and a bronze brooch (Thomas 1985, p.183)". He notes that the second sestertius of Marcus Aurelius listed here may have been turned into a brooch (bronze adhered to the bottom of the reverse), though this has not been verified.

The coins were found in August 2000 by [...] with the aid of a metal detector. "A hoard of 142 low quality denarii was found on a dump in Dagenham, which is known to have been cleared from the Billingsgate Lorry Park site in London. The coins appeared to be of bronze with a black sheen, suggesting that they contained a small quantity of silver. They did not appear to be plated, but the concentration of very few types (122 coins with PROVID AVGG, 7 with LIBERTAS AVG) strongly implies that they were a forger's stock. Unfortunately due to the short time available for the study of the coins, it was not possible to establish whether they were cast from a small group…

Robertson 2000, 86 no. 400: ""A triangular area existed between Building XIV, 3 and the street to its south-west. Layer 3, consisting of clay with many flints and fallen tiles, especially towards the south-east side of the trench, appears to be collapsed debris from the building: in a pocket of dark soil cut into its surface was found an early third-century hoard of eight coins ending with two of Elagabalus (see list below)." Robertson 2000, 85: " "The Period VIII [i.e. c. AD 193-222] high consists of twenty-eight denarii and one sestertius: this is not an unusual proportion for the time, but the possibility of a hoard of denarii must be considered. It is unfortunate that the individual locations of these coins, all from fields east and south-east of the fort are not recorded. its Period VIII peak, if not a hoard, suggests second-century occupation culminating in some exceptional episode of coin loss." -C.S. Robertson 2000, 75-6: " "One hundred and ninety denarii, two of them fragmentary, were found with a metal detector during April and May 1984 in a field east of Algarsthorpe, Great Melton, Norfolk. They were declared Treasure Trove at an Inquest on 10 October 1984. The hoard was scattered, but the majority, some 70%, were found in an area 10 metres across. A small number was found further away, the furthest being some 80 metres from the centre. There was no trace of a container. Eight other Roman coins, all bronzes of the first to fourth centuries AD, and some sherds of Romano-Britis…
