A lead pot mend and a fragment of the ceramic vessel, of probable Roman date, AD 43 - 410. The mend is two discs of lead, one large and oval and one smaller and nearly square. They are joined by a short stem (making the mend H shaped in cross-section) through a hole in the ceramic vessel. Some of the ceramic fabric survives. It appears to be a greyware with frequent quartz inclusions, suggesting a Roman date.
Measurements are; length 28.3mm, width 24.2mm, thickness 9.9mm and weight 22.87g.

Lead pot mend. A large cast plug to mend a hole in a vessel wall of thickness 4mm. The inner side of the plug [as poured] bears a scratched graffito resembling a kite, with a central cross for struts. The finder kindly suggests this may represent a mitred face, though there are no features to suggest eyes, mouth or nose.. Patinated. The neat finish might commend a Roman date. Suggested date: possibly Roman, 43-410
