A cast copper alloy decorative strap mount or fitting with a square plate, 19.4mm wide. The mount is decorated with raised cells of retained metal, with four small square cells around a central circular cell, all holding a red enamel inlay. The surface of the mount around these cells is gilded. The edge of the plate has a narrow recessed lip which appears to be beaded. The reverse is flat and undecorated with stumps of two integrally cast attachment prongs on the outer edges of the plate, which may represent rivets or (given the positioning) part of an attachment loop.

Copper alloy mount. Cast plate bearing the three-dimensional concavo-convex openwork inmage of a proto-heraldic lion walking left with tail above its body and four ball-shaped paws. Like NLM-AF619C this falls short of the proto-heraldic form of those buckle plates ascribed to the early 13th century, though this is less at variance with their character than that object. A rivet of diameter 1.9mm and length 4mm was set in each corner of the frame. Suggested date: Medieval, 1175-1225
Length: 24.4mm, Height: 22.5mm, Thickness/Height (i.e. projection, clear of rivets): 8.4mm, Weight: 7.21gms

An complete cast copper-alloy artefact, possibly a mount of Medieval date, perhaps earlier.
The original artefact is assumed to have been either annular or penannular; around three-quarters now survives. It is crescent-shaped in plan and triangular in section, the front being bevelled. The U-shaped form is decorated with moulded radiating grooves on the upper surfaces. The reverse is rough but essentially flat. The two ends terminates in a rounded plate also decorated with grooves. There is a circular hole in the centre of each rounded plate, presumably for a rivet. The hole…
