Record ID: NLM-E705DC
Object type: BUCKLE
Broad period: MEDIEVAL
County: North Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Copper alloy possible buckle fragment. A part of what is taken to be the cast spacer plate from a buckle of composite construction, retaining the inner edge of a small single loop and a prong – presumably one of a pair. The lack of a hole for the pin might suggest that the spacer has broken across that aperture or may hint that the spacer was part of a strap end rather than a buckle. Suggested date: Late Medieval, 1350-1450 Length: 19.1mm, Width: 8.1mm, Thickness (at loop): 3mm, Weight: 1.47gms

An incomplete copper alloy late Medieval (c. AD1300-1500) 'disc-on-pin' buckle of Redmayne Type A4, consisting of the 'disc-on-pin' only. The pin comprises a flat sub-lozengiform plate, c. 1.7mm thick, from opposite ends of which project the points. One of the ends of the pin, which has a sharp point, points downwards to meet the frame. The upward-pointing point is less sharp (although this may constitute a break) and curves very slightly to the back. The disc has four in situ globular-headed rivets (each c. 5mm in diameter) at the cardinal points of the obje…

Fragment of a Post-Medieval buckle dating to the period AD 1720-1790. Three quarters of the buckle frame is missing. The fragment is a section of what would originally have been a drilled frame to hold a separate pin or spindle. The frame fragment is L-shaped in plan, comprising the first section of one rounded corner with about 3/4 of the adjacent long side and a short section of the adjacent short side, and is slightly curved. The frame thickens at the point of the drilled spindle hole, which is filled with corrosion. On the front of the buckle there is the …
