White metal spoon. Cast teaspoon with rounded spatulate end to its handle, a narrow lentoid section stem and a flat oval bowl whose tip is lost, now crumpled. Hallmarks appear on the back of the handle: the numeral 1 with pellet above in an oval panel, a lion facing walking left in an oval panel, and the capital letter M; these have not been seen in the guide to hallmarks (Wilkinson 1975, A History of Hallmarks). A silvery surface which reveals dark grey metal below it may be plating, and the spoon itself of base metal, which would suggest illegitimate use of the lion mark. The spoon i…

White metal object probably an alloy of silver and other elements and likely to date to the Post-medieval period circa 18th or 19th century. The object is in the shape of a spoon but there is some doubt that it is originally manufactured as an actual spoon. It appears to have been cut into the shape of a spoon and then crudely hammered flat decorated on the inside with an incised punched decoration of narrow zig zag interleaving lines. The object also has a decorated tab with a stamped design on the front and an incised triangle on the back. It is likely that it was originally part of…
