Object type: THIMBLE
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Shropshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A complete but compressed white metal thimble dating to the post medieval to modern period (c.AD 1800-1900). The object would have originally been sub-conical in shape with a domed top. The dome is now pressed inwards, as is one of the sides. It has been produced by deep drawing and is machine knurled. The base is thickened, plain and turned over and measures 3.5mm in with. A turned over base suggests a post 1800 date. (E.F. Holmes (1988) Data Sheet 9: Sewing Thimbles).
