Object type: STRAP FITTING
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Fragment of a post-medieval strap or harness junction. It seems to have been originally composed of two loops, one probably oval and the other perhaps polygonal, arranged on perpendicular planes and joined by a solid elongated spheroid which tapers in transverse cross-sectional diameter toward one end. This joining element is extant and complete. A short remnant of the probably oval loop, circular in cross-section, extends from the narrow end and terminates in a worn break at each end. The possibly polygonal loop survives as a pair of short oval-cross-sectioned bars that project from o…

Post-medieval copper alloy strap slide with two integral flat-sectioned attachment spikes on the reverse near the ends. Faulty casting can be seen near one end in part of one side which is straight rather than curving and in the spikes which both spring from one of the sides rather than the centre. These have been turned inwards towards each other and, though they are now distorted, their tips would have overlapped, forming a gap for straps c.15mm wide but of uncertain thickness due to distortion. Similar to Read 2016, no. 310. Previously identified as mounts or…

Incomplete medieval copper alloy folding strap clasp. A composite trapezoidal frame consists of an inside edge and sides formed from one piece of sheet and a separate but fixed roller, and the attached sheet folding end is engraved with two saltires alternating with three longitudinal lines and five short lines or dashes along the fold. A bent piece of sheet may well be the incomplete part of the accompaning plate, though this remains uncertain because there is no join. It tapers from a break to the inside edge near which is one rivet. The front face is engrave…
