A Greek copper-alloy coin (uncertain denomination), minted in Syracuse, Sicily, between 317 BC and 289 BC, during the reign of Agathocles. Ref.: Seaby no. 1339 (Plant 1979: 81, no. 1339). Although an unusual find for Britain, the patination on this coin is consistent with it having been lost in this country in antiquity. Traces of an unidentified black substance are also visible on the surface and there is a casting sprue. Dimensions: 20.9mm diameter, 2.9mm thick. Weight: 5.57g.
