Roman settlement site excavated in 1969, possibly ahead of construction of M3 motorway. Site revealed refuse pits, ditches & a roundhouse. There were finds of pottery, animal bone and a hoard of 106 coins, mostly late 3rd - late 4th century AD.

Deposit of late/post- Roman 'dark earth' across much of site, but small hoard of 5 silver siliquae & 1 cu alloy coin suggested it was at least partly formed by AD 363 AD or shortly after.

A hoard of Roman coins contained in a small jar is said to have been found in the Ballast field at Bishopstoke in 1878. Also found were complete pots and "a huge trench containing horses heads and grain". The HER record implies the hoard was found in this trench. Possibly associated with a Roman building.
