An incomplete copper-alloy dolphin brooch of Roman date, c.AD 55 - 100. Mackreth 2011, Colchester Derivative Hinged (CD H) Type 6b8, plate 53, no.1567. The head of the brooch comprises tubular wings which are undecorated. The axis bar and pin no longer remain. An D-shaped sectioned bow extends centrally from the front of the wings curving steeply round and tapering to a worn break. The metal has a mid-green patina and is worn. An incomplete copper-alloy penannular brooch of Roman date, c. AD 50 - 200. Booth Type A3 (Fowler Type A2). The brooch comprises a plain, circular sectioned frame with expanded knop terminals. Both terminals are flattened knops with grooved decoration. A humped pin remains fitted around the frame by a coiled loop. The head is ovate with a single centrally positioned integral vertical lug to the reverse. The spring remain though the pin is lost. An axis bar remains fitted through the lug. Five (5) turns of the spring remain around the axis bar. The front of the ornate head is decorated with a pair of recessed arcs which were likely inlaid with enamel. An incomplete cast copper-alloy small long brooch of Early-medieval date, c. AD 450-550. Only the head and upper bow of the brooch survive in tact. The head is square in plan with seven (7) small perforations, one in each corner and one at the centre of three of the edges. The knop is semi-circular with a narrowed waist and semi-circular base. The curved edge of the base has two parallel groves of decoration. A short worn part of the central panel or a wing remains attached to the base of the knop.
