Introduction A Late Bronze Age hoard of 39 fragments representing a minimum of 38 artefacts was discovered by Dr Peter Anning on 2nd February 2021 while metal-detecting on a field following agricultural drainage work. All of the artefacts were reported as being discovered within an area of 2.4m (8 feet) of each other, of each other and at approximate depths of 20-30cm (8-12 inches). Discovery (CG & AG) A Late Bronze Age hoard of six fragments, representing four artefacts, was discovered by Dr Peter Anning on 30th October 2020 while metal-detecting in a field under pasture in Pontprennau Community, Cardiff. These included four sword blade fragments (Nos. 1-4, below) and two casting jets (Nos. 5-6, below). An incomplete cast lead seal matrix of Medieval date (c. 13th or 14th century). The seal matrix is of flat circular form, though is now distorted and missing much of its edge, with a maximum surviving diameter of 28.4mm, and a thickness of c. 4mm. The reverse is flat and undecorated but marked with multiple linear incisions and has a pierced suspension lug at the top. The lug is 11.7mm long, 4mm wide and 6.6mm deep. An incomplete copper alloy strip of probable Medieval to early Post Medieval date (c.AD 1300-1500). The strip is flat and sub-rectangular in plan (46.4mm long x 16.9mm max width x 1.5mm thick) with four crudely incised grooves at one end that are pierced by a single large globular rivet (c.7.1mm diameter). The other end terminates in an old break. No other traces of decoration survive.
