An incomplete copper-alloy early medieval (early Anglo-Saxon) sleeve clasp catch-element. It is sub-rectangular in shape and slightly curved in profile. The plate and bar are cast in one piece with the sub rectangular catch-element, within which is a long oval slot, projecting from the centre of a straight front edge. The rectangular plate has a straight outer edge and an integrally cast, narrow, longitudinally positioned bar projecting from the inner edge of the outer face. A single silver plated Anglo-Saxon buckle pin dating from the 6th-7th centuries AD
Only the pin has survived. It is of the 'shield-on-tongue' type with an integral plate over the pin, with a rounded end then a waist formed by two rounded cut-outs (opposite each other), then a rectangular lobe with a nick in each short projecting edge.
