An incomplete copper-alloy early medieval (early Anglo-Saxon) sleeve clasp catch-element. It is sub-rectangular in shape and slightly curved in profile. The plate and bar are cast in one piece with the sub rectangular catch-element, within which is a long oval slot, projecting from the centre of a straight front edge. The rectangular plate has a straight outer edge and an integrally cast, narrow, longitudinally positioned bar projecting from the inner edge of the outer face. The outer face of this bar is decorated with two groups of two transverse grooves, creating …

A complete early medieval silver penny of Æthelstan I of East Anglia (c.825-c.845), without bust, moneyer: Torhthelm (Naismith E40.1var; North 440), mint: East Anglia (Ipswich?) dating to the period c.AD830-837/8.  The coin appears to have been struck from the same dies as EMC 2018.0046.
