Silver penny of John. Short cross coinage type 5b.
The mint name is unclear. It appears to read LVN but the moneyer RAVF which is readable on the reverse inscription is not associated with this mint according to North. Other possible readings are LVIN and WIN.

A medieval cut halfpenny (originally a silver short cross penny of class 5b3), dating to around AD 1206 (King John). The use of a broken punch has affected the form of the eyes on the king's bust, and this allows precise dating.
The coin was minted in Lincoln or Winchester by a moneyer known as Rauf.
