Width 9mm. The fragment consists of decorated silver plate attached to a piece of corroded iron. The silver plate has the form of a ninth century strap end but the presence of the iron points to it having had some other use. The incised decoration is in the ninth/early tenth century ‘Trewhiddle’ style but too little survives to allow a confident identification of the motifs used. These consist of a triangular panel filled with oblique lines, a feature difficult to parallel. Through this panel are two leaf tendrils. To the left of the panel is a crescent panel containing further leaves…

It consists of a sub rectangular strip of metal with a squared terminus at one end and a break, or straight cut, at the other. The sides are not parallel, tapering slightly towards the squared end. It has been stamped, such that there are three conjoined hollow bosses or domes taking up almost the width of the strip, except for a beaded border on all sides but not the broken end. Two very small attachment holes are drilled between the first two bosses, one each side. The item may have been trim from a b…

A silver or white metal item of post medieval date. The fine-walled but flattened cone has a broad internal lip around the open bottom edge. The entire outer surface is decorated with flowers and leaves. There are no attachment fittings or elements for suspension. Judy Rudoe, British Museum, comments: "The shape is baffling, with no obvious method of attachment and what may be an empty stone setting at the front. The decoration recalls 19th century chasing with flowers and foliage, but it may not be European."
