A very worn silver penny from the reign of Charles I (AD 1625-1649). Pellet mintmark, suggesting that it was struck at Oxford or Shrewsbury c. 1642-1646. Possibly Group E or G, North (1994) Nos.2272-2273.

Coin has been perforated from obverse through to reverse. This perforation has a sub-rectangular shape and is positioned close to the edge of the inner field, just below the bottom of the legend lettering (at about 7 or 8 o'clock on the obverse and 11 or 12 oclock on the reverse side of the flan).

A silver post-medieval penny of Charles I. Uncertain initial mark, possibly Oxford mint (AD 1625-1649). The coin has been pierced twice: the first hole has been punched through from the obverse to the reverse, and the second from the reverse to the obverse. John Naylor (Finds Adviser - Early Medieval and later coinage) says: 'The piercings are not aligned with any part of the design, indeed one goes right through the bust and both clip the plumes on the reverse..
