TREASURE CASE : 2009 T211 A seal matrix, with a decorative handle - probably dating from circa 1660 onwards. The seal matrix is made in silver. The face is octagonal and flat, measuring 16.9mm x 15.1mm. The reverse of the face is flat; on top of this flat side there is another level of silver plate - which is rectangular, this forms the base of the handle. TREASURE CASE : 2010 T615 A complete silver seal matrix of 17th Century date. The seal matrix has a fluted trifoliate handle with a small knop projecting from the tip of the upper foliate. The upper foliate is tear-drop shaped while the two smaller side foliates are circular. From the handle a short, circular sectioned stem flares outwards to form the die. The die is oval in plan and is engraved with a fleur-de-lis design flanked by the initials WB. face measures : 12.1mm x 10.7mm

A seal matrix, with a decorative handle - dating from the 18th century. The seal matrix was made in silver. The face is oval and flat. The reverse of the face has a slightly domed appears, with two rectangular depressions one on either of the longest edges. Extending up from this plate is the handle. The handle starts with a circular section and rises into a crescent shaped element. A silver oval fob seal matrix. The object comprises of an oval fob which swivels within a frame. The oval fob has moulded details on both faces, a bird on one side and coat of arms on the other, above the coat of arms is a bird with its wings open and there are two birdswith long tails on either side of the shield. Both faces designs are enclosed within a pelleted border. The frame is half an oval in shape and has scars from breaks on the rounded edge. The fob measures 23mm by 19.9mm and is 3.2mm thick. The handle is broken, but would have been formed from four loops, of which only one full one survives. The handle is flat, and there is a small extension off the remaining loop. An incomplete silver seal matrix of post-medieval date. The seal matrix is of the fob type and has an octagonal face which is engraved with the design of a winged heart over an anchor within a twisted rope style border. From the reverse of the face the seal tapers to a narrow hexagonal shaft with a broken terminal. A complete silver seal matrix of post-medieval date. The seal matrix is of the fob type and has an oval face which is engraved with a rampant lion within a twisted rope style border. The handle consists of a rectangular loop with two spiked projections extending out parallel to the face. These projections each have a single incised line running along their centre. The handle narrows and terminates in a worn break. The metal survives in good condition.

The object is a two-sided die from a swivelling fob-seal which is ovate in plan with a flat section and two short and worn projecting knops extending from the sides. TREASURE CASE : 2002 T90 This silver personal seal is a characteristic early to mid-17th century type, with two initials, R and L, flanking a knot out of which issues a floral spray. This could be the seal of a single owner, but it may also represent the initials of a husband and wife. Similar motifs are commonly found on signet rings and we have number of such rings in the British Museum. This find would make a significant acquisition for the local museum. A medieval seal matrix set with a quartz stone showing what appears to be a winged figure of Victory. The reverse is damaged and has lost its suspension loop. The legend surrounding the stone reads X IHESVS: CRISTUS: AVE MAR (Jesus Christ Hail Mary). This is an interesting example of the use of pagan Classical gems in a Christian context. The seal matrix is silver and dates from the thirteenth century.
