A complete but slightly misshapen post-Medieval silver seal matrix manufactured by Thomas Willmore at Birmingham in 1799. This matrix has an oval die and an elaborate handle. The openwork handle consists of two back-to- back scrolls surmounted by an ovolo terminal. Between the handle and die there is a short stem, circular in cross-section. An incomplete post-Medieval silver and glass rebus seal matrix, probably from a fob seal (c. 1800-c. 1900). The handle or suspension loop is missing due to a break. An incomplete post-Medieval silver seal matrix with an oval die (c. 1600-c. 1700 AD). Treasure case no. 2011 T532. The handle is square in cross-section and tapers from the die towards the top where it expands and then tapers to a break. The die depicts a bird standing, facing sinister with wings erect. A Medieval silver seal matrix (c. 1200-c. 1350). The hexagonal section handle is incomplete and the die is severely damaged. The charges are incomplete and what remains can be described thus: a chevron sable between three lions' heads couped. The cross-hatching on the chevron denotes black. Any other indication of colour has been lost. The surface of the handle is worn and the break is old. Height: 12.2mm; width: 24.7mm; weight: 13.89g. An incomplete post-Medieval silver seal matrix c. 1725- c. 1800). The die face is oval and has three concentric oval steps at the rear which rise and taper to a collar beneath the ornate handle. Viewed from the side, the surviving part of the handle is crescent-shaped and is rectangular in cross-section. At the centre of the handle there is a pointed projection which is square in cross-section. The die has incised initials in an ornate copper-plate style and when impressed, reads: J U (I U). 14.7 x 21.4 x 18.3mm. Weight: 10.74g.

A complete cast silver seal matrix of probable 18th century date. The die face is oval in plan. The rear face rises in three even stages to an oval section stem. On the middle stage, to one side, there is an indeterminate maker’s mark. The integrally cast handle, surmounted on the stem, is crescent-shaped as viewed from the side and oval-shaped as viewed from above. A complete silver seal matrix of post-Medieval date, 16th or early 17th century. Treasure case no. 2009 T673. The seal matrix has an octagonal face with a hexagonally faceted conical handle that tapers to a double collar. Above the collars is a ‘heart’-shaped suspension loop with a small knop at the apex. At the centre of the die a lion sejant faces dexter (as viewing an impression). ‘Rope-work’ forms an octagonal border. 23.4 x 15.9 x 14.9mm. Weight: 5.75g.

Incomplete cast silver seal matrix of probable eighteenth century date (AD 1700 - AD 1800). Length 12.2mm, width 10.5mm. Weight 1.34g. The die face of the seal is oval. Viewing an impression, the moulded die depicts a human skeleton holding a spear or arrow in the left hand and an hourglass in the right hand. These features are enclosed by a beaded oval line concentric with the oval outer edge. On the reverse is the stub of the broken handle which appears to have been conical rather than faceted. The seal is in good condition and the break is old.
